DVD Burning Tutorial
For Beginners
Have you ever seen a post somebody made where they had eight or nine download links and once they were all downloaded, they could be unzipped together and out would come one large video file? Well, you've come to the right place. This topic is for novices who want to burn a DVD onto their computer as a single file, split it into smaller pieces, and then upload them onto a website.
- 1) First, download the trial version of Wondershare. This is a very user friendly program. The trial version is pretty much the same as the registered version, except you can only burn the first ten minutes of your movie and there is the Wondershare watermark on the screen. Obviously, if you upgrade, these things will be remedied.
- Click on the Free Trial for Wondershare DVD Ripper Platinum.

- Remember, once you have your video file burned and you're ready to compress it, whether it's with WinRAR or HJSplit, you should split them to 100 MB sized files. Since I only use WinRAR, I can tell you that where it says: "Split to volumes, bytes", you want to type the number "100000000". That will take your 800 MB video and split it into 8 individual files. It's up to you. You can just split it in half if you want, or not split it at all. The choice is yours, my friend!

2) Once it is downloaded onto your hard drive and installed, open the program and click the "Add DVD" button in the upper left hand corner. Here, you will pick the drive that has your DVD in it. Mine, for example, is the F: drive.
3) Depending on the DVD, you will see a list of video files.
4) To figure out which file is what part of the movie, simply click the "Play" button beneath the preview screen. For example, I chose Title_01_01. You can also tell it is the main portion of the video because of its length and size. On the other hand, Title_04_01 is just the FBI Warning screen. I don't want that.
5) Once you've figured out which parts of the DVD you want, uncheck the ones you do not want. Then click the button that says: Merge into one file.
6) Next, select the type of video file to which you want your DVD burned. Where it says "Profile", click the drop box and go to "Common Video". I prefer Xvid AVI. Keep in mind, this setup and this type of video format are only available in the registered version. In the Free Trial version, you just have the plain AVI format, which will suffice, so don't fret.
7) Once you have everything set up the way you want it, click the Start button to begin conversion. This will take hours so it is best to do this at night while you sleep or during the day while you're at work.
