lets say you want to hide a file or collection of files but are very knowlegeble that any password can be cracked no matter how complex.... you say: "huh? but my password is n-teen characters long and is something like "%^&*(@#$(@#BKK@#^b or whatever" and i say "they have a lot more resourses than you do, and a lot more professional people dealing with passwrod cracking on your little hidden archive files" also it should always be assumed that there are backdoors built in the encryption software esp popular encryption software for the int. agecies (to protect you of course from yourself).
so there is an interesting program out there that hides files inside a photo file [the bigger the photo file , the more info you could hide inside].
so here is the program
http://www.darksoftware.narod.ru/narod_is_...spy_install.rar
basic steps
- you open an image file (.jpg)
- open a file you want to hide
- save the new file.
to restore the 'hidden' file
- open the image file
- read hidden info
- save hidden file to disk

what about video files? do you think it can do the same? or is there a program that does that

you can only hide as much information as there are pixels in the image.
once you load the image it will tell you how much data it can hide inside.
but in general it would be pointless to hide videos more than 2mb in size... imagine a bmp image that 100MB

noone would buy that.

Can anyone that opens the image file tell that its hiding a file? Like any hints within the properties or what not? This is very intriguing, must know more.

no there wont be any hints visually or in properties the photo will open in any imageviewer

Thank you PAVEL, I will deffo be trying this piece of software.
On another note does anyone know of/use Evidence Eliminator? I was going to buy it to wipe clean traces of my net use but not sure if it's as good as the ad says?!
If anyone has used let me know what they think?
Thanks

most important thing is to think... what "Evidence Eliminator" is basically removes the entries from registry, few cookies. idea is to make these traces unreadable by software like EnCase, FRED etc. think of data/file recovery software - they recover deleled files... so idea is to scrabmle (wipe) files upon deletion , software like BCWipe would be your best choice. as for visited links its pretty useless to delete stuff you visited - if you are monitored, then it will be on ISP level so its pretty pointless to delete 'history' of visited URL's - its made so that ur friends/girl does not see what you surf

also imagine someone finding the EE software? first thing comes to their mind? its too specific. BCWipe is just a file wiping utility - hey you need to protect your CC/SSN whatever data

so its general use. always get general use software. a similar way is to store images inside MSoffice software LOL its kinda fun when you open .doc files and there are like 100 images easy to scroll through.
want to get more paranoid? search for TEMP inside your computer, then see whats in those folders - esp images

I got it to work, thats pretty cool. I wonder if you could post the images online and have a friend save & decode them.

it will only work if the online host does not distort images. as images are in .bmp format

No, I have not loaded the program, just got scared when I saw the Russian language. I will load it PDQ...
BTW, I have looked into joining the Models group, but don't see where or how to pay via a regular Visa card. Plenty of Paypal, which I don't care for, and other ways but I missed the regular credit card entry form.
Again, your input is appreciated.

My PC hard drive was recently formatted, which I naively assumed destroyed everying on the hard drive. Before that I had always used Cyber Scrub to both remove clutter and to remove anything that was potentially untoward/ questionable.
Yesterday I used a program called Recover My Files on the PC and the material that has turned up has to be seen to be believed. If I can perform this sort of trick, what can the Feds do ?

This happens to people a lot, they think that formatting is a way of wiping everything but it only wipes the pathways to files. I was told this once, if you think of your computer like a filing cabinet holding all your files and you format, you are only throwing away the index. As Pavel said, the only way to wipe files is to over write them, many times.

Pavel, I really doubt that there are backdoors in programs such as TrueCrypt. If there is, it would be known by now. Basically, if you take all precautions using TrueCrypt it would be almost impossible to break in. There are so many options in it. And if you do everything right they have to identify the keyfiles and try to crack to decrypt your data.
But if you are trying to hide something from the cops encryption is pointless cause everything you do is logged by your ISP. Encryption helps only when it's about people that physically access your house, room, computer......
It is really hard to hide what you are doing from your ISP. They can see where are you surfing, what are you downloading. They don't need to jump in to your encrypted volumes to find out what you were doing.
